The group's Def Jam return has a stacked guestlist.
Public Enemy's first album in three years, What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down, will be out on Friday 25 September.
Given the group have delivered a relatively steady stream of music for the past 30-odd years, this isn't necessarily big news in and of itself.
But there are a couple of details that make this the most exciting Public Enemy record in some time.
Firstly, there's the stacked guestlist.
Mike D and Ad-Rock (Beastie Boys), Cypress Hill, Run-DMC, Ice-T, Nas, YG, DJ Premier, George Clinton, Black Thought and Questlove (The Roots) and Rapsody are among the names who will feature across the record's 17 tracks.
A few of these names come as no surprise following the release of the group's 2020 version of classic single 'Fight The Power'.
Secondly, it is something of a homecoming for the band. It will be the first PE record since 1994 released through the legendary Def Jam label, that issued the band's classic five first records.
"Def Jam is like the house we grew up in. It’s cool to be home," Flavor Flav said of their return to the label.
Finally, for anyone who is still confused (understandably), there's the rock-solid confirmation that Flavor Flav remains a part of the group.
The band reportedly fired Flav earlier this year, for reasons that vary depending on who you ask.
Some claimed it was due to Flavor Flav's political views after his lawyers issued a cease and desist to the Bernie Sanders campaign for using his likeness to promote a Los Angeles rally.
Ultimately, Chuck D said the firing was a hoax to publicise a new record from Public Enemy offshoot Public Enemy Radio.
"Does it take doing crazy sht [sic] or catastrophe to wake people up? Obviously so, even when paying attention is the cheapest price to pay," he said in a now-deleted post on the Public Enemy website.
Flava Flav clearly wasn't on the same page though, tweeting his dismay at the stunt to the Public Enemy frontman.
