Celeste Barber wants to rename Australia 'West New Zealand"

Australian comedian Celeste Barber has called for Jacinda Ardern to rename Australia 'West New Zealand'.

Barber is among the many Australians who have praised Ardern's leadership recently, while her Australian counterpart Scott Morrison has come under fire.

Morrison's personal ratings have tumbled over his handling of the bushfire crisis.

On Instagram, Barber asked Ardern: "Can you please make us West New Zealand? Can you be our leader and look after us? We need you."

Barber will also host an upcoming concert where artists including Queen + Adam Lambert and Olivia Newton-John will perform to raise money for bushfire relief.

Although Ardern has not publicly replied to Barber's comments, the Prime Minister has previously spoken of her support for Australia amid the devastating fires in New South Wales.

The Kiwi leader has been on holiday in Australia with her partner Clarke Gayford.

A local employee in the area said she was "completely star struck" when Ardern walked into her shop last week."I said to her 'am I seeing things?', and she said 'probably not', ABC reported.

Despite being a Kiwi, last year Ardern was voted Australia's most trusted politician in a survey which compared politicians' leadership strengths.

An Australian comedy sketch published last year also earned a lot of laughs online as it discussed whether Arden should become Australia's ruler.

In the sketch, comedian Sammy J acts as a commissioner and states that one of the compromises that would have to be made for Ardern to be the prime minister was to accept the pavlova was an Australian invention.

So far Celeste Barber has raised over 51 Million dollar for the bushfire appeal and you can donate here: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1010958179269977/
