Massive 15ft Great White Shark caught

A 50-year-old great white shark dubbed the “Queen of the Ocean” has been located and tagged in the waters off Nova Scotia, Canada.

Scientists from OCEARCH, an NGO that is tagging and sampling sharks, say the female shark, seen in the video above, weighs more than 1,600kg and measures At 4.7 metres (15 feet and five inches)

“We named her ‘Nukumi’, pronounced noo-goo-mee, for the legendary wise old grandmother figure of the Native American Mi’kmaq people,” Ocearch wrote in a Facebook post.

“With the new data we’ve collected, this matriarch will share her wisdom with us for years to come,” OCEARCH wrote.

“She will continue to help balance fish stocks in the surrounding waters, and we look forward to learning more from this wise guardian of our ocean’s eco-system.”

Nukumi is the largest of six great whites that researchers have sampled during the current expedition, which has been running for almost a month.

OCEARCH is an ocean data-collection organisation that has tagged and collected samples from hundreds of sharks, dolphins, seals and other animals to learn about migration patterns.

According to the Australian Government, great white sharks in our waters can measure up to 6.4m in length, although specimens of up to 7m may exist.
