Men With Beards Could Be More At Risk With Spread Of Coronavirus

Men with facial hair are being warned that their beards could become hazardous in the spread of coronavirus.

According to experts from the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, various beard types could prevent some breathing respirators from working properly.

The centre has released an infographic warning that shows which types of beards are more at risk than others.

According to the poster, some facial hair like whiskers, soul patches, lampshades and handlebar moustaches do not affect the respiratory masks.

However, those that could pose a risk to the effectiveness of respirators are styles like stubble, a full beard, the Dali ‘trash and mutton chops.

The reason these types of beards could stop the respirators from working properly is because the hair may affect the way that the device seals across the face.

The CDC have said that this advice applied to breathing respirators that are mainly only used by at risk health professionals.

With more than 80,000 cases of coronavirus reported globally, masks and breathing respirators have been flying off the shelves in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
