The Merri Creek Tavern is advertising hilarious fake COVID-related gigs

With COVID-19 still dictating things on the local front, beloved Melbourne live music venue The Merri Creek Tavern have taken the hilarious step of advertising faux COVID-related gigs on the venue’s front window.

With fantastic designs from Jen Huntley at Fin Graphics, the gigs first got underway on Friday July 3 when the band ‘Hand Sanitizer’ took to the stage. After taking the next weekend off, The Merri Creek Tavern then welcomed ‘Homeschoolers’ alongside special guest ‘Unrest In The Home’ on Saturday July 18.

Next up was ‘COVID-19 Hotspot’ on Friday July 24 before ‘Pandemic’ jumped on stage on Friday August 14. The next night, arguably the most hilarious of the lot ‘JobSeeker JobKeeper’ performed, which saw members of the band throw fake money into the crowd to the alarm of all those who attended…

There are still a bunch of gigs to come as well. You won’t want to miss ‘Andy Vaxxer & The Conspiracy Theorists’ appear on Saturday October 31, before funk outfit ‘Flat & The Curve’ take to the stage the next night.

Another not-to-be-missed show will be ‘On After 8’ who will launch their new single ‘You’re Not The Boss Of Me Dan!’ on Saturday November 28.

The celebrate their ingenious work, The Merri Creek Tavern are also running a little competition to go alongside the shows. The venue will be awarding a free pint weekly for the person who comes up with the best gig/album/bio description for any of the faux COVID-related artists who have performed or are yet to perform.

On each of the posters, The Merri Creek Tavern has left a footnote alluding to their current status. “Bands will be back at the MCT as soon as social distancing laws are lifted,” the note says. With the venue set to reopen in November, there’s no doubt punters will be awaiting MCT’s first real gig with plenty of anticipation.
